Following our Intro to Auerswald wrestling workshop, we are organizing a focused 4-hour intensive workshop to further develop your wrestling skills. The session is designed to provide clear structure and hands-on learning.
Who is this for?
This workshop is suited to:
Beginners with little or no prior grappling experience
Practitioners who have followed the previous Auerswald workshop
Experienced grapplers who are looking to expand into other folk wrestling traditions
What you will gain
In this workshop you will learn the basics of 16th century German folk wrestling, after which we will engage in grappling games designed to build proficiency.
In just four hours, you will:
Develop a clear technical foundation to build on
Learn how to move and set up positions to throw from
Gain experience in wrestling games that have been used for centuries
What we will train
Structured warm-up routines for grappling
Setting up positions and advantage
Holds and throws
Games designed by the old masters to integrate these skills.
The material is based on a well-documented late medieval and 16th century tradition, including works by Albrecht Dürer and Fabian von Auerswald. All of this will be presented in a manner that will resonate well with modern practitioners.
Drilling, coaching and exchanging knowledge
With its didactic structure, this workshop ensures:
Drills that help build proficiency
Individual feedback
Time to share insights and accelerate learning
Equipment
Comfortable sports clothing, indoor shoes and a water bottle. A wrestling jacket, fencing jacket or historical doublet is optional, but will find plenty of use if you have one.
