FAQs

Do I need any experience to join?

Not at all! Our classes are beginner-friendly and open to all fitness and experience levels. We'll guide you from your very first step.

How old do I need to be to join?

Classes are open to fencers aged 18 and above.

We can make exceptions for children of age 16 and above, and if that’s the case, please send us a message before your sign up.

What should I bring to my first class?

Just wear comfortable workout clothes and indoor sports shoes (non-marking soles). We provide all the necessary gear for your trial lesson.

What equipment do I need to start?

We’ve got you covered for the beginning! We provide loaner gear for new students, including swords and protective equipment. If you decide to continue, we’ll help you figure out what to buy and when — step by step.

Is HEMA safe?

Safety is our top priority. We use modern protective equipment and controlled sparring formats. Classes include warm-ups, clear instruction, and plenty of supervision to make training safe and fun.

What kind of weapons do you teach?

Our main focus during group classes is on the Langes Messer and battlefield weapons (greatsword, polearms) but we also offer workshops and modules on other historical weapons like dagger, sword & buckler, and armoured combat.

Is this space inclusive?

Absolutely. We’re committed to creating an inclusive, respectful training space for everyone — regardless of gender identity, background, or experience.

How often are classes held?

We currently run group classes twice a week and schedule workshops or private lessons as needed. Check our Lessons page for up-to-date info.
